01 The method
Up and running in one evening.
-
Add what comes in
Your paycheque, your partner’s, the side work. Typed in, not scraped from your bank.
-
Give every dollar a job
Rent, groceries, the car fund, a little for nothing in particular. Assign until the meter reads zero.
-
Log, adjust, repeat
Spending happens. Move money between categories without guilt, and the month still balances.

02 Why zero based
Money without a job wanders off.
Zero-based budgeting is one rule, applied once a month. Take the money you actually have, and give all of it a purpose before you spend any of it. Rent, groceries, the car fund, fifty dollars for nothing in particular. When the last dollar has a name the meter reads zero, and you are done thinking about it.
A budget is not a limit on what you can spend. It is a decision you already made, so you do not have to make it again in the aisle.
That is the whole method. Everything else here exists to make it take ten minutes instead of an evening, and to keep everyone in the house looking at the same numbers.
What you actually get.
Envelopes that roll over
Underspend on groceries and it is still there next month. Overspend and you move money, you do not start again.
Recurring bills, once
Set the rent and the insurance once. They land in every month without being asked.
Shared, live
Your partner logs a shop and your screen updates. No refresh, no arguing about who has the latest version.
Goals that fund themselves
Sinking funds for the car service, the holiday, the excess you hope never to need.
03 The habit
The part that keeps you coming back.
Budgets fail because they are boring, not because they are hard. So logging spend earns XP, three streaks track the habit, and fourteen badges mark real money milestones.
3
Streaks
A daily logging flame, a weekly review chain, and a months-budgeted streak the household shares.
14
Badges
First zeroed month, a fully funded goal, three zeroed months in a row.
10
Seconds a day
Roughly what it takes to log the day and keep all three streaks alive.
One budget, three kinds of access.
- Owner
- Runs billing and everything else. Usually whoever set the household up.
- Adult
- Full control of the budget. Assign money, add categories, close the month.
- Limited Pro and Business
- Logs their own spending, reads the rest. Good for a teenager learning the ropes.
The calm is worth paying for.
Every plan runs the whole method. Plus makes it unlimited for about the price of a coffee, Pro brings the whole family in, and Business runs your team. Free is a real budget for one person if you want to start there, and paying yearly gets you two months free.
