CalmDollar vs Wealthsimple
Wealthsimple is where a lot of Canadians invest and bank, and its Spend tab shows where money in your Wealthsimple accounts went. CalmDollar is a budget, a plan for your money before it's spent. They answer different questions, and many people will want both.

Where Wealthsimple is ahead
- It holds the accounts. Your TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, and chequing can all live at Wealthsimple. CalmDollar doesn't hold money at all.
- Automatic tracking. Spending on a Wealthsimple chequing account or credit card is categorized for you, with trends and recurring charges flagged.
- No extra app. If all your spending runs through Wealthsimple, the insights are already there at no extra cost.
Where CalmDollar is ahead
- It looks forward. A tracker tells you what happened last month. A zero-based budget decides what happens this month, before the money is spent.
- Every bank, one budget. Rent from one bank, groceries on another card, a partner's account somewhere else. It all goes in one plan.
- Envelopes and goals. Categories carry over, and sinking funds for a trip, a car, or a down payment show whether you are on pace.
- A budget for the whole household. Pro gives up to six people their own login and role in a shared budget.
Use them together
Let Wealthsimple hold the accounts and let CalmDollar decide how much goes into each one every month. The TFSA vs RRSP calculator and the FHSA calculator help you pick the amounts, and the budget makes sure they get funded.
